External Funding Opportunities

Internal application support

The Department of Biomedicine has dedicated budget advisors and a research coordinator that make the budget, inform directly about relevant calls, issue letters of support etc.

English language check

Applications for funding from eg. the Research Council must be sent in English. Poor use of the English language can have a negative impact on the reviewer's general impression. In order to avoid that applications submitted by the Department of Biomedicine are rejected due to the poor use of the English language, the Department of Biomedicine offers a copy-editing step of the final proposals.

To receive this type of support, you only have to follow these rules:

• Text to be edited must be delivered as a Word file.

• The text must be sent at least 2 weeks before the application deadline.

Please send the application text to the research coordinator at the department.

PES2020 - Internal routines for the NFR-PES2020 funding scheme for project establishment support

PES2020 is an initiative of the Research Council that will help strengthen Norwegian participation in Horizon 2020. You can get financial support to find partners, networks and relevant announcements, and you can get support for writing applications.

Project Establishment support (PES)

For researchers who are in the process of a specific application for the H2020 in 2018. PES funds can cover travel and meeting expenses, external consultancy (UiB has framework agreements with Innovayt and Enspire Science Ltd), expenses for partner search, establishment of project consortia, search in patent databases and the like. For each application sent to H2020 in 2018, the research groups receive PES funds at fixed rates. Routines:

• The research groups use their own funds to prepare EU applications.

• Researchers submit a research application to Horizon 2020, that has to be deemed “eligible”

• According to fixed rates, the PES support will be refunded to the groups (more details on the routines will follow).

POS – Positioning funding

For researchers who position themselves towards future calls (from 2020). Covers expenses related to: Building relationships with leading European environments (networking), participation in arenas that influence the European Research and Innovation Agenda (strategic work), short-term positioning to build new, possibly entering into existing consortia. Maximum kr. 75,000 per application. Routines:

• Researchers apply for POS funds in advance by filling out the application form POS and emailing it to Margarethe.Bittins@uib.no by 6 May 2018 (next deadline: 14 September).

• POS funds are transferred to the research groups after receiving NFR payment

• POS funds must be used by December 10, 2018.

POS-KHT – Competence-building

For activities that build up expertise for administrative and scientific personnel. This includes participation at seminars, workshops and conferences. Routines:

• Researchers apply for POS funds in advance by filling out the application form POS and emailing it to Margarethe.Bittins@uib.no by 6 May 2018 (next deadline: 14 September). The programs of the activities for which funds are sought must be added to the application.

• The POS-KHT funds are transferred to the groups as soon as NFR has made them available to UiB

• Must be used by December 10, 2018.
