Applications for funding from e.g. the Norwegian Research Council, almost without exception now have to be submitted in English.
Poor use of the English language, despite the fact that the scientific content may well be excellent, can mean that the reviewer does not gain a good overall impression of the proposal. This can in turn result in a non-favourable response on behalf of the reviewer. Since the level of competition for grants is now higher than ever, all applicants need to present their proposals in a streamlined and highly professional manner. Language may well therefore be an important factor that in a border-line case may be critical with respect to the final ranking of the proposal.
In order that future applications sent from the Department of Biomedicine are not likely to succeed because of sub-standard English, the Department Council announces that those who would like to have their proposal read by a native English-speaker within the Department prior to submission now have this opportunity.
To be eligible for this support you have to follow the following instructions:
• Text to be edited has to be provided as a Word file.
• The text has to be provided at least 2 weeks ahead of application deadline.
