Department of Biomedicine – arrival information
Dear Researcher
This brief information note will give some hints of what to pay special attention to when arriving Norway, and also some practical matters concerning the Department of Biomedicine.
Before arrival
Please note that it may be necessary to apply for a Visa before arrival to Norway. Useful information of practical matters both before and after arrival to Norway can be found at the web page http://www.uib.no/en/sim - "Service centre for international mobility".
When in Norway
It is especially important to note that within 7 days of arriving in Norway, everyone who receives a work permit must go to the police to register – bring your passport! (see map included in the folder).
In addition, everybody must register to the Norwegian National Population Register (“Folkeregisteret”) within 8 days of arrival (http://www.skatteetaten.no) (see map included in the folder). They will then first issue a temporary ‘D-number’ (dummy number) used for identification until your unique 11 digit personal ID-number ("Personnummer") is issued after a month or so. While the D-number has a limited use for identification, the unique ID-number is the master key to resolving an array of practical issues upon arrival and settling in Norway.
